How Reiki helps with restlessness: from chaos to calm

We all experience restlessness from time to time, for example due to an overly full agenda or events that all come at the same time, causing chaos; Your head is full, you worry a lot, your body feels tense, you forget things, you may even be more clumsy in your movements and sleeping is also a bit more difficult. You might be more easily irritated or overstimulated. Concentrating can also be difficult at times. And so there are many forms in which anxiety can manifest itself. And if you’re not careful and don’t take the time to rest and relax, anxiety can turn into stress, a serious form of anxiety, overexertion, or even burnout.

And you probably already know it: restlessness exhausts you, stress throws you off balance, and rest provides a sense of calm in both your mind and body, and relaxation can actually re-energize you.

There are many things you can do to bring more relaxation into your life. Such as a lovely walk through the woods, a bike ride, yoga, swimming, or any other form of exercise. Meditation can also help, but sometimes you might feel too restless to sit still. In that case, a gentle form of exercise might be better for you. Breathing exercises can also be very helpful, and sometimes it’s helpful to write down your thoughts to help you let go.

Reiki is a method that helps you soothe and calm your body and mind. Combined with the aforementioned examples of habits you can adopt to feel more at peace, an energetic treatment can have a very positive and powerful effect.
Reiki works on so many levels that it can support your overall well-being.

In case of serious complaints, it is always advisable to contact a doctor or physician.
Reiki is not a substitute for specific medical care, but it can be combined very well.

What kind of method is reiki?

Reiki translates as universal life energy and originates from Japan. It’s a method in which the practitioner transmits energy. This can be done in various ways: through the laying on of hands on or just above your body while you lie on a treatment table or sit on a chair. It can also be done online from a distance, where the practitioner connects with you from another location and conducts a session. You can find more information about this on the page: Reiki distance healing

Whether you receive a one-on-one session or an online distance therapy, the energy goes where it’s needed, and you can experience a deep sense of calm during and long after the session, a relaxed body, warmth or tingling in certain parts of your body. You might gain insights, fall asleep, experience emotions, or anything can happen. But it won’t be more than you can handle at that moment.

What types of restlessness are there?

You can categorize restlessness into three ways you can experience it:
Mental – your thoughts keep going, you worry a lot, etc.
Physical – you feel stressed, certain muscles feel tense and don’t actually relax, and you may not sleep well.
Emotional – you experience feelings of irritation, anxiety, panic, or, for example, great uncertainty.

The tricky thing about restlessness, anxiety and tension is that these three forms influence each other. If you worry and ruminate a lot about certain things and keep going over and over in your head, you may sleep less well and you may also become more irritable, which means you may feel more emotional and react more irritably to people or dread things more, which in turn causes more tension in your shoulders, and so on.

Consciously taking time and space to relax is incredibly important for resetting yourself. And Reiki can help break that vicious cycle. It can give you that little push in a gentle, kind way.

How does Reiki help with restlessness and anxiety?

So reiki is energy. And energy is around and within us, and energy works on both a physical and mental level.
Reiki activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes rest and recovery. This slows your breathing, among other things, and your body naturally enters a calmer state.
A treatment gives you insight into your tense muscles and helps release physical tension. This physical relaxation often also helps to calm your mind.
During a session, you can experience profound relaxation; sometimes people fall asleep or experience a deep meditative state. This quiets thoughts and often creates space for clarity and (new) insights.
Because reiki works on an energetic level, it also supports the balance between your body, mind, and emotions. This makes you feel more stable and at peace, and can also reduce or even eliminate feelings of restlessness, anxiety and panic.

She was feeling well: Experience with an Online Reiki session:

Annelies called me a while ago and told me she wasn’t feeling well. She couldn’t quite put her finger on the cause, but she felt trapped by tension. We immediately scheduled an online session for later that day.
She later texted me the following: “About 10 minutes into the session, I could clearly feel my body becoming heavier and heavier, my thoughts calmed down, and it felt like an old pain was being released. I cried a lot, and afterward, it felt like relief, not sadness. So wonderful! I slept like a baby and today I noticed that I was much better able to indicate my boundaries in what I could or could not do and wanted to do or not. How bizarre and special that one session can make such a difference!”

Never again restlessness or anxiety?

Well, no. We all experience restlessness, anxiety, tension, chaos, and stress from time to time. And that’s not a bad thing in itself, as long as it doesn’t last too long, it doesn’t limit you, it doesn’t dominate your life, and it doesn’t bother you.
If you recognize those feelings early enough, there’s not much to worry about, and there are many things you can do to create more peace of mind and body.
Identifying tension early and addressing it is truly a form of “prevention is better than cure.”
And sometimes you can use an extra hand.
