This is perhaps one of the first questions people have when they hear that I offer online Distance Reiki sessions.
And honestly, I can completely understand why.
During a massage or an in-person Reiki treatment, you are in the same room as the practitioner. You lie on a treatment table, the practitioner places their hands on your body, and you can feel their presence.
But during a distance Reiki session, I am not sitting next to you. You are at home, lying on your own sofa or bed, and I may even be in a completely different country.
So how does it work?
What is distance Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese method that works with universal life energy. As a Reiki practitioner, I see myself as a channel through which this energy can be passed on. I use certain symbols and intentions to attune the treatment to you.
Within Reiki, we believe that energy is not bound by a particular place. This is why Reiki can also be given at a distance, without us being physically together.
We also believe that the energy is directed towards where it is needed and can support the body’s natural self-healing ability.
In my sessions, I combine Reiki with intuitive reading. This means that during the treatment, I also tune in to what may be going on for you. Afterwards, I share my impressions and feelings with you. Sometimes they confirm something you already sensed yourself; at other times, they may offer you a different perspective on a situation.

How does a distance Reiki session work?
Beforehand, we agree on a time for your treatment. This means that we are both taking part in the session at the same agreed time, even though we are not in the same place.
Let’s say we arrange a session for Monday morning at 10 am. It’s helpful to find a quiet place beforehand where you can lie or sit undisturbed for a while.
Put your phone aside, make yourself comfortable and perhaps have a blanket nearby. Some people like to put on relaxing music. You could also do a short relaxation or breathing exercise beforehand.
If you like, I can send you a link to an exercise.
Before the session, I ask for your name and the place where you are. A photo can help me tune in to you, but it is not essential.
Do we need to see each otherd the session?
No, we don’t. We agree on a time, and I let you know when I begin.
A live video connection is possible if you prefer, but it usually isn’t necessary. You will probably be sitting or lying down with your eyes closed, and I also give the treatment with my eyes closed. Many people actually find it easier to relax completely when they don’t have to look at a screen.
Once the session is over, I send you a message along with a voice message sharing my impressions, which you can listen to whenever it suits you.
What do you do during the treatment?
You don’t actually have to do very much. You don’t need to adopt a special position or perform any exercises.
You can simply lie or sit down and relax.
Do you notice your thoughts going in all directions? That’s completely normal. You can gently bring your attention back to your breathing. And if you fall asleep, that’s absolutely fine too.
At the beginning of the session, you can set the intention to open yourself up to the energy. After that, you don’t need to focus consciously on the treatment. You can close your eyes and take some time simply to be, without having to do anything.
Alternatively, you can spend the entire session observing what you notice, both mentally and physically.
What might you experience during distance Reiki?
This varies from person to person, and even from one session to another.
Some people feel warmth, tingling or a sensation of energy flowing through their body. Others mainly notice that they relax, that their mind becomes quieter or that they feel sleepy.
Some people notice changes in how they feel physically, for example, that their pain decreases. What each person experiences is different.
You may also find that you don’t feel anything unusual at all during the treatment.
That doesn’t mean that nothing is happening.
Sometimes you only notice something later. For example, you may look at a situation differently, suddenly gain an insight or find that something occupies your thoughts less than it did before. You may also notice physical changes.
So don’t expect every session to be the same. You don’t have to feel anything special for a session to be pleasant or valuable. Nor do you need to look for a particular effect afterwards. Simply take your time and notice what you experience for yourself.
What do I experience during the session?
My sessions combine Reiki with intuitive reading.
During the Reiki treatment, I tune in to you from a distance and work in a way that is similar to how I give an in-person Reiki session.
I may also notice certain things during the session. These can be physical sensations, images, feelings or thoughts that come to me. Sometimes questions or themes arise that may relate to what is going on for you at that moment.
This is the intuitive part of my work.
I don’t see these impressions as absolute truths. However, they may invite you to reflect on something or look at a situation from a different perspective.
Afterwards, I share my experiences with you. I often do this through a voice message, so you can listen to it whenever it suits you. You can also listen to the message again later.
Sometimes you immediately recognise what I tell you. Other things may only make sense later. And it is also possible that something doesn’t resonate with you at all. You don’t have to accept everything I share without question; simply see what feels familiar and useful to you.
How long does a session last, and what happens afterwards?
A distance Reiki session with me usually lasts around 30 to 40 minutes.
I don’t keep checking the clock. I take the time I need to complete the treatment.
Afterwards, I send you a message and share my personal feedback from the reading with you. If you prefer to speak on the phone, we can arrange that too.
You don’t need to respond straight away. Perhaps you feel tired and want to lie down for a little longer, or you would like some time to think about what you experienced. You can listen to my message whenever it suits you.
Feel free to give yourself a little time after the session before returning to everything that is waiting for you.
Why do people choose an online distance Reiki treatment?
There can be several reasons.
You can stay at home, avoid travelling and receive the treatment in your own familiar surroundings. This can be helpful if you don’t have much time, find it difficult to go out or don’t have a Reiki practitioner nearby.
If you prefer to stay at home because of stress or anxiety, an online session can also be an accessible way to try Reiki.
And sometimes, it’s simply nice to lie on your own sofa without having to go anywhere.

Would you like to experience a distance Reiki session for yourself?
Perhaps you find the idea of distance Reiki a little difficult to imagine. I completely understand that.
Even I am sometimes surprised by what comes up during a session. Energy is fascinating and not always easy to explain. For example, I cannot know in advance what will happen during a session or what I will perceive.
I tune in, give Reiki and allow the intuitive reading to unfold without deciding beforehand what I should feel or perceive. I let go of my own expectations.

Photo for this blog
I took this photo in Madeira. I love flowers and felt that this one was a good fit for the subject of distance Reiki.
The white flowers convey a sense of calm and softness to me. The misty mountains add a touch of mystery: not everything is clearly visible, and not everything can be explained.
The bee brings movement to the image. Even when everything seems calm, something can begin to move. The greenery and the first light of the sun complete the picture for me.
My name is Jolinda. Through Flow-Spirit, I help people find more peace, balance, and connection with themselves through Reiki, energy work, and intuitive guidance.
I also enjoy sharing inspiration through my blogs, about conscious living, herbs, nutrition, relaxation, and the little things that make life just a bit more beautiful.
