Difference between intuition, clairsentience and clairvoyance?

We all have intuition, which you could describe as universal inner wisdom. But what about clairsentience and clairvoyance? Does everyone have it, can you develop it, or is it reserved for only a handful of people? And are they simply highly developed forms of intuition?

We all know those moments when you think of someone and they call. Or when something or someone feels completely right from the start. Or when you notice the opposite, and your gut tells you something isn’t quite right.

The best thing to do is to listen to this feeling and act on it—in other words, to follow your intuition.

It’s also quite possible that you think afterward, “I actually already knew it, but I didn’t listen to the signals and let my head take over.”
Over the years, as I have become more aware of my own intuition and strived to listen and act on it more and more, the question also arose as to its relationship with clairvoyance and clairsentience.

What exactly is intuition?

Intuition often exists in the silence before thinking.
In the introduction, I briefly described intuition as inner wisdom. You often receive “knowledge” in that moment just before you start thinking. With intuition, you don’t need to know the why; that’s the mind that wants an explanation and wants to put things into perspective. Your mind analyzes, conditioning can come into play, and so on. But your intuition is your inner knowing.
Some people also call it “claircognizance.” Perhaps more commonly, it’s also called “gut feeling,” and people actually feel something in that area in certain situations. You might also suddenly get an idea or inspiration. Some people report hearing a soft voice. Or it could be that things happen by chance or at just the right moment. Was it coincidence or your intuition that prompted you to take action earlier? It’s interesting to be aware of this and observe how things unfold in your life.

You could see intuition as an ability to pick up subtle signals.

Clairsentience and clairvoyance are specific ways in which your intuition can express itself.

What is clairvoyance?

Most people are familiar with the word “clairvoyance,” but it’s often associated with fortune tellers and psychics, and many consider it utter nonsense.

But it’s actually quite simple: it’s “clear seeing.”
This can be in the form of colors, specific images, symbols, or even dreams and visions, as well as entities and auras.
These are visual forms that other people can’t see with the naked eye. They are often inner images, and as some describe it, they’re like seeing something “in your mind’s eye.”
You may have had this gift strongly since childhood, but you can certainly develop it further with specific exercises.
For example, you might receive an image through a dream or meditation about someone or a situation, see specific symbols that contain information, and sometimes people can have visions about something that’s about to happen. However, many clairvoyants claim this is simply not possible, and that only things about the past and present are visible.

Clairvoyance can be seen as a visual form of intuition

What is clairsentience?

This term may be less well-known. While clairvoyance is a visual form of intuition, clairsentience is a physical and emotional form of intuition.
It’s the clear feeling of emotions, moods, or energies of people, places, or situations.

For example, you intuitively sense what’s going on in another person. Or you might notice tensions or sensations in your own body that belong to someone else, or you might sense certain emotions within yourself that aren’t your own. For example, you might suddenly feel very sad for no apparent reason. Or, upon entering a room, you might immediately sense the atmosphere of a group or be deeply touched by someone’s mood or energy.

Overlapping intuition, clairsentience and clairvoyance.

So we all have intuition, and clairsentience and clairvoyance are refined forms of intuitive perception.
You can further develop all these forms through awareness training, meditation, specific exercises, or energy work. You may find that one form develops more easily and/or better than another. Be patient, as it can take years to gain (more) clarity of feeling, knowing, or seeing.

If we listen more closely to our intuition, and therefore act on it, we’ll connect more deeply with ourselves and make choices that are best for us. We’ll also gain more clarity and peace in our lives.

Clairsentience and clairvoyance can help us create more depth and connection with ourselves, as well as better support others.

My own development in clairsentience.

I think my own clairsentience has developed significantly thanks to the Reiki treatments I give. I notice a clear difference in how it’s developed now compared to years ago.
As soon as I begin the treatment, whether online or one-on-one, I may immediately experience intense emotions or physical sensations. Sometimes these subside after a while, and more subtle sensations emerge, for example, when my hands are on a different part of the body.
It’s also possible that I suddenly gain an insight into something, or notice people’s needs, or perhaps a situation that arises. And if I share this with people after the session, and they recognize it or it resonates with them, it can provide enormous insight and lead to change.
I sometimes see images and energy around someone, but somehow I still find it difficult to call this clairvoyance because I also have this idea that “clairvoyance is seeing the future,” and I worry that people will then have the wrong impression of me.

I still find it amazing sometimes and feel grateful that I can use this as an additional tool to guide, help, and heal people.

Increase your intuition with a Reiki treatment, online or 1-on-1

A Reiki treatment can also be described as a universal life energy session. Reiki energy goes where it’s needed, which can be physical or mental. During a session, you too can experience what your intuition tells you: what you need, what you want to change, and so on.

A treatment can never give you more than you can currently handle. Reiki can help you become more aware of your intuition and enhance it. It can also help you further develop your clairsentience or clairvoyance. I regularly have people who see images they’ve never experienced before, and they find it very comforting.
